frequently asked questions
Here is just an initial start at an F.A.Q. page. More will be added over time as I think of them, new features become active and other people ask questions which would be ideally suited to this page:
Jukebox reports 'Jukebox.INI not found'?
The Jukebox.INI file is the text file which holds all the configuration data and must be in the same directory / folder as the Jukebox executable file.
Jukebox reports 'Invalid Storage Path'?
This is beacause the 'STORAGE_PATH=' line in Jukebox.INI is not pointing to a valid folder. The actual folder being pointed at must exist. If not, then create the directory and restart Jukebox.
Jukebox reports 'MP3_PATH_1 or MP3_PATH_2 or MP3_PATH_3 not found'?
This is because the 'MP3_PATH_1=' etc. in the Jukebox.INI file is not pointing to a valid folder containing a valid database layout. There is two 'levels' at which you can run the database layout. Check the manual for an explanation and diagrams and examples.
After a Database Index, Jukebox reports 'No files found, Database error'?
This is another version of the error above with 'MP3_PATH_1=' and means the database did not contain any valid tunes, or the valid tunes were not in the correct places to be scanned.
How can I use the ShoutCast option?
There are several things which must be checked before you can use the ShoutCast system. Firstly, you must be using the Windows version and your MP3 Decoder must be set to Winamp in the Jukebox.INI file. Next, you must enable the option in the INI file by setting 'ENABLE_SHOUTCAST' to TRUE. This can be found in the Winamp Decoder options section. The ShoutCast site option below it should be left as its default. You can then start Jukebox as normal. If you have problems with Windows 95 and ShoutCast, please install the WinSock2 update from Microsoft.
My Parallel LCD doesn't work?
There are several things to check first. Check you have the correct output device selected in the Jukebox.INI file. You will require LCD-PAR.
Next you need to check the settings are at default in the LCD configurations as this should work for most people. Check that the wiring is per the diagram included in the manual. It does NOT support the same wiring as some of the Winamp plugins do (though they can be switched to use this wiring scheme). The READ line on the LCD is not used in Jukebox. If you are using Windows 2000, ensure you have installed an LPT driver to allow direct access to the parallel port. The 4-bit data method is not yet supported, but will be in the near future, so ensure you are using the 8-bit data method.
Can I use my IRMan under DOS?
Yes, but the DOS version does not contain the driver built in to Jukebox. Instead, you will need to use a TSR (one is available for download on the DOS page). This loads before Jukebox starts and stays resident in memory. This will intercept any input from the IRMan and convert it to keyboard presses. This means both Jukebox AND your chosen MP3 decoder / player can be IRMan controlled.
Are the CrystalFontz / MatrixOrbital Serial LCDs supported?
The drivers have been written but as yet they have not been tested as I do not have either of these type LCD displays. If someone would like to test devices, I'll be able to make adjustments to the drivers if necessary. The DOS binary does not currently support serial LCD displays. It will soon.
I'm using MPXplay with DOS 7.0+ and when I quit MPXPlay, I don't go back to
Jukebox. I'm dumped in to DOS?
Make sure you are using the DOS7 version of MPXPlay and not the DOS6 version.
I've made a playlist outside Jukebox & copied it to the M3U directory but
some tunes are missing when played?
The tunes in the M3U playlist must be known to Jukebox. This means that the tunes must be in the index. If they are not, they will be ignored.
When I play a very large playlist, the display pauses for a short time?
The playlist is extracted from the database which takes a short time if used on a very lower power CPU.
I'm having trouble getting my Joystick/Gamepad to work on Windows?
In the system menu, you should only calibrate and redefine the joystick you are actually going to use. If your joystick has joystick 1 and 2, if you onlu plan on using controller 2 on it, then ONLY calibrate / define that one. If you try to calibrate / define controller 1 as well, you may well find Jukebox seems to be controlling itself ! If this happens, you will have to reset the defines etc. using option 1 and start defining again.
Why do some remotes not work if I hold the remote button down?
It's a design issue with the IRMan Infra-red receiver. Some remotes will work 100% even if you hold a button down, it will continue to read your key presses. Some remotes will only register that a key is being pressed once, even if you hold down the button.
I have tunes on another PC. Can Jukebox access them via a network?
The short answer is yes! The longer answer is that they should be layed out in the same format as your other drive(s) you have added to the database. The network drives need to be 'mapped' so they appear as a local drive to Windows. Bear in mind that indexing will be slower across a network than a local disk.
I've found a bug or have a problem not answered here, in the Manual or else
where on the website, what can do?
You can either fill out the bug report form, or
you can mail directly. I'll then reply with help, or news on when the next release
will be to include the bug-fix to sort the problem.
