what is Jukebox

introduction

Jukebox is a Database Front-End for the popular Windows MP3 player - WinAmp and the popular DOS MP3 players, Damp and MPXplay.

The program originated as a Dos version for Damp MP3 player, but the Damp version of Jukebox was retired, as new features required the functions offered by WinAmp. I then started to get quite a large number of people asking for the DOS version back. Until recently, this was not possible, but Jukebox has been rewritten in a much more modular form and there is now a Windows and a DOS version of Jukebox.

Jukebox gives the user the opportunity to use their chosen MP3 player as a dedicated music server either in their hi-fi separates systems, or, more likely, in a mobile server in their car. In these situations, a monitor and mouse are not so practical! Jukebox can drive Serial and Parallel displays and take input from the Parallel port, keyboard or gameport.

It is not written by the author of WinAmp, Damp or MPXplay and is a separate project, so if you have any problems with this software, please contact me, not them!

what is a front-end?

Jukebox is a database engine and control system to allow you to manage large quantities of MP3s (and other music formats) and deliver them to your chosen MP3 player easily for playing, transparently. It takes initial control of the music collection and allows searching and playlists to be managed before pumping the required information to the player to play them. It is hoped that it in the future, Jukebox will be able to do even more! It will be able to remember the last items being played when switched off, support various input and output methods as well as being highly configurable.

As at August 2003 with the release of V3.84 imminent, the source code for Jukebox has just broken the 30,000 lines barrier !!!
